Addressing on this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (J) Rajeev Verma said that with the establishment of these medical equipments, the needy patients coming for treatment at the District Hospital, Nawanshahr will be greatly benefited. He also said that the installation of new machines will help in providing better services to the patients. He said that no stone will be left unturned in providing better health services to the people of the district. Meanwhile, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur gave detailed information about the prevention, causes, symptoms and treatment management of the disease while shedding light on the important aspects of understanding thalassemia. These medical equipments will be of great benefit to the needy patients coming for treatment at District Hospital, Nawanshahr, as more tests can be done with less staff and in less time.

The civil surgeon said that thalassemia is a genetic disease, in which the victim's body stops producing red blood cells and the body becomes anemic. In this disease, the victim has to have a blood transfusion every 15-20 days. The main reason for the rise of this disease is the lack of awareness among the people.

Dr. Kaur said that more than 10 thousand child patients of thalassemia are identified every year in the country. Therefore, great efforts are being made by the health department for its treatment.

Meanwhile, Dr. Satwinderpal Singh, Senior Medical Officer of District Hospital, Nawanshahr said that Tappan Industries, Rail Majra today, fulfilling its corporate social responsibility, donated essential medical equipment to the Thalassemia Ward of Civil Hospital, Nawanshahr, including three special beds, Includes one LED, one computer etc. Similarly, TransAsia India Company donated 4 lab machines to the medical lab of the hospital, including CBC machine, fully auto analyzer, ESR, analyzer, urine analyzer.
