In this hour of calamity, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has opened the doors of the government treasury to help the state.
The government will give 44.8 crores to Sikkim
Amit Shah has approved the release of an advance amount of Rs 44.8 crore from the central portion of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to help the flood-affected people in Sikkim. Along with this, an inter-ministerial central team has also been formed.
According to an official statement, the Home Ministry has constituted the team following Union Home Minister Amit Shah's directives. The team will soon visit the flood-affected areas of Sikkim to take stock of the damage caused by cloud bursts and floods.
The Center has approved the release of both the tranches of the central tranche of SDRF i.e. Rs 44.8 crore to Sikkim. Along with this, the Center has assured all possible help to Sikkim. The statement said that the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi stands shoulder to shoulder with Sikkim.
It may be mentioned that the water level of Teesta river suddenly increased due to cloudburst on October 4. Due to this, several bridges, National Highway-10 and parts of Chungthang Dam were swept away. Several development projects have also been affected by the floods. The Center is monitoring the situation in the state.
The Center is helping Sikkim Government by mobilizing logistics resources on time. Apart from this, adequate teams of NDRF, Indian Air Force helicopters and army personnel have been deployed in the state. Technical teams from the Ministries of Power, Telecommunication and Roads, Highways and Transport are busy repairing the derailed infrastructure and communication network in the state.
