In the 98th Open Punjab Athletics Championship, Mohali athletes dominated, Joy Baidwan set a new record.

During the Open Punjab Athletics competitions held at Barheros in Sangrur from September 15 to 17, the dominance of Mohali district athletes, especially girls, was seen in various categories. Mohali District Athletics Association General Secretary Mr. Swaran Singh said that Mohali district won about 25 medals in this championship and Mohali district was among the leading districts in winning medals.

SAS Nagar, September 21 (SAB) During the Open Punjab Athletics competitions held at Barheros in Sangrur from September 15 to 17, the dominance of Mohali district athletes, especially girls, was seen in various categories. Mohali District Athletics Association General Secretary Mr. Swaran Singh said that Mohali district won about 25 medals in this championship and Mohali district was among the leading districts in winning medals.

He said that during this competition, Joy Baidwan set a new state record by throwing a shot of 14.54 meters in the under-14 category (girls). Similarly, in Under-16 (Girls), Supreet Kaur, Loveleen Kaur, Nurpreet Kaur won two gold medals and two silver medals respectively.

He said that in the junior category, Aditi, Dashpreet won silver and bronze medals and in the boys' junior category, Ritisveer won the gold medal in the U-14 (boys) javelin throw. Apart from this, in the senior category, Harpreet Singh won 2 gold medals for the district and Gurmanjot and Dilpreet Singh also won one medal each. In total, about 25 medals were won by the athletes of Mohali.

District Athletic Association organized a program at the sports stadium of Sector-78 to celebrate the excellent performance of Mohali's athletes, during which the winning athletes were also felicitated. Life Time President of the Association Pritam Singh said that there is a need to take these achievements to the national level. He also gave a cash prize of one thousand rupees to the winning athletes.
