Patiala, August 3 - As per the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Goyal, under the weekly Friday-Dry Day Campaign for the prevention of dengue and malaria diseases, various teams of the District Health Department inspected the stagnant water sources across the district to detect dengue larvae.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Goyal said that if there is any kind of fever, then testing should be done which is done free of cost in government health institutions. He said that dengue is a viral fever which spreads due to the bite of Aedes mosquito during the day. This mosquito breeds in clean stagnant water. He appealed to the general public to destroy broken utensils etc. lying on the roofs or courtyards of their houses, ensure cleanliness of utensils, old tyres, coolers, refrigerator trays to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.
District Epidemiologist Dr. Sumit Singh said that under the Friday-Dry Day campaign, the health department teams reached 39251 houses in different areas of the district and checked for dengue larvae and the larvae found at 287 places were removed and destroyed by the teams on the spot. He also informed that under the Dry Day campaign, more than 4,01,024 houses have been surveyed by the health teams so far, in which the larvae found at 1441 places have been destroyed by the teams on the spot. Strict action is being taken by the district administration against those who are negligent in destroying the larvae of dengue mosquitoes, so that people are aware of eliminating the larvae of Aedes mosquitoes born in stagnant water. He said that the number of larvae found after the rain is increasing, this week the health department teams have destroyed the larvae found at 287 places. So far 3 cases of dengue have been reported in the district, but if people ignore it and water remains stagnant, there will be a risk of dengue spreading.
