Monsoon is at the head but the work of dealing with floods is still incomplete, fear among people!

Patiala, July 4 - People who were affected by the floods in the same month last year are also afraid of floods this time. Because the monsoon has arrived, but seeing the speed with which the administration and the drainage department are taking action, it is natural for the people of Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Gobind Bagh, Kohinoor Enclave and Urban Estate situated on the banks of Badi River to feel fearful.

Claims of flood prevention arrangements were made last year and are being made this time too, but the reality of these arrangements is something else. Despite the claims, the work of Daulatpur Barrage on Badi River is still going on, although it is being claimed that the work will be completed in the next few days. The drainage department demolished the RG bridge built on Chhoti River near Old Bishan Nagar, but did not bother to remove its debris and soil from there, this debris and soil can create obstruction in the water coming later. Insufficient sacks filled with soil were seen near Baba Deep Singh Nagar on Badi River to deal with the threat of possible floods. Grass and straw that obstruct the flow of water during floods also remain standing in many places in the Badi river. The construction of a wall is also going on along the Badi river near Virk Colony. Amritpal Singh of Baba Deep Singh Nagar, an area affected by floods last year, said, "The administration is following the saying 'Behde Aayi Janjh, Vinno Kudi De Kan'. The administration should have immediately started work to prevent possible floods in the future after last year's floods." People have started preparing in advance due to the possibility of floods. People had suffered a lot during the floods last year. In view of this, some people in the flood-affected areas have already made arrangements to save their valuables during a possible flood this time. Former Akashvani officer Amarjit Singh Waraich, who lives in Urban Estate Phase 2, has made special iron stools of 3-3 feet by spending Rs 35 thousand, on which he has just placed a bed, sofa set and other valuables. He said that people no longer have faith in the administration. Officials make claims every year but in reality no concrete action is taken. Former IAS officer Manjit Singh Narang, who lives in Urban Estate Phase 2, has also fenced some parts of his house to protect it from possible floods.
