
Prohibition of firecrackers on wedding day or any happy festival in the district

District Magistrate Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, exercising powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Act 2 of 1974), has imposed a complete ban on firecrackers during festival season in district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar in compliance with the orders passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Civil Writ Petitions 23548 of 2017 and 23905 of 2017 on marriage day, New Year's Day or any other occasion. These orders will remain in force till 02 September 2024.
Ban on felling of green mango, neem, peepal and banyan trees in the district
District Magistrate Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, exercising powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Act-2 of 1974), has issued a complete ban on felling of very important green mango, neem, peepal and banyan trees within the limits of district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. The orders issued state that if it is necessary to fell the said trees under special circumstances, then they should be felled only with the permission of the Forest Department. For this purpose, the same procedure will be followed by the Forest Department, which is adopted for issuing permit in closed area under Section-4 and 5 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act, 1900. If it is necessary to fell green mango, neem, peepal and banyan trees at any place in District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar other than the listed area, then it should be felled only after taking approval from the office of Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Bhagat Singh. It has been said in these orders that it has been observed that some people are unnecessarily cutting green mango, neem, peepal and banyan trees. These trees have religious significance since ancient times and they have a huge contribution in protecting the environment from pollution. Apart from this, wild animals and birds usually nest on these big trees. While the cutting of such trees adversely affects the environment, it also adversely affects the habitat of birds, due to which many species of birds are becoming extinct. For this reason it is necessary to stop their cutting. These orders will remain in force till 02 September 2024.
No unauthorised person allowed to enter within 100 metres of examination centres during supplementary examinations of class VIII, X and XII: District Magistrate
The District Magistrate Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, exercising powers conferred under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 (Act-2 of 1974) in view of the July-2024 supplementary examinations of class VIII, X and XII being conducted by the Punjab School Education Board, SAS Nagar (Mohali), has issued an order that no unauthorised person should be allowed to enter within 100 metres of the examination centres at Lt. Gen Bikram Singh Memorial Government Senior Secondary School, Mehendipur, School of Eminence Banga and Government Senior Secondary School, SBS Nagar during the July-2024 supplementary examinations of class VIII, X and XII in the district. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and District Education Officer (SEC) Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar will be responsible for enforcement of this order. This order will remain in force till 20 July 2024.
