A severe heat wave is anticipated to affect Chandigarh in the coming days. To ensure the safety and well-being of the general public, the Chandigarh Disaster Management Authority has issued the following public advisory: The public is strongly advised to remain hydrated by consuming Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS), drinks with electrolytes, and homemade beverages such as lassi, torani, lemon water, and buttermilk. Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid going out in the sun, especially between 12:00 Noon and 03:00 P.M. When outside, wear loose, cotton, light-weight, and light-colored clothing. Carry drinking water and an umbrella for protection against extreme heat. Dietary Recommendations: Incorporate seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content into your diet. Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks as they can lead to dehydration and stomach cramps. Extra care should be given to the elderly, pregnant women, and infants. Ensure they drink plenty of fluids and use cool baths, showers, or wet towels on their neck and underarms to control body temperature. Provide a shallow pot or utensil filled with water for birds and animals. Set up a temporary green shed to protect them from the extreme heat. Vehicle and Home Protection: Educate yourself on methods to protect your car from excessive heat. Utilize cool roof methods such as white paint, green net shading, and mist cooling systems to keep your home or office cool.
