Chandigarh:- The General Election to the Lok Sabha in 2024 for the Union Territory of Chandigarh is progressing smoothly, with significant milestones achieved in the nomination process. As per the schedule, the nomination process commenced on May 7, 2024, and concluded with a total of 33 nominations received from 27 candidates. The scrutiny of these nominations was diligently conducted today by Sh Vinay Pratap Singh, the Returning Officer cum Deputy Commissioner of UT Chandigarh. Among the received nominations, 26 were accepted, while 7 were rejected. The General Observer to Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency, Sh SS Gill, was also present on the last day of Nomination as well as on the day of Scrutiny. All the Affidavits have been uploaded and can be viewed on affidavit.eci.gov.in, the Voter Helpline app, as well as Know Your Candidate app. The Nomination Papers of Sh Rajesh, Sh Navtej Singh, Sh Prem Pal, Sh Amit Sharma, Sh Satnam Singh, Sh Surinder Singh (covering candidate of Bahujan Samaj Party) and Sh Ajay Tewari (covering candidate of Indian National Congress) were rejected. Additionally, a facilitation meeting is scheduled for May 16, 2024, in the presence of the Expenditure Observer. This meeting aims to brief all candidates and their agents or representatives regarding the maintenance of election accounts and other necessary formalities. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is May 17, 2024, at 3 p.m. Allocation of symbols will promptly follow at 4 p.m. on the same day at the office of the Returning Officer.
