Nawanshahr - The auto workers along with their families will stage an indefinite dharna day and night in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office from March 12 due to the demand for an auto stand. Today New Auto Workers Union took this decision in a district level meeting at Nawanshahr.
Addressing the meeting, the district president of the union, Puneet Kumar Bachuri, said that for the past one year, they have been demanding from the district administration to provide space for an auto stand at the bus stand of Nawanshahr. For this, they have met the District Administration, General Manager of Punjab Roadways and made written requests several times, but they have not received anything other than praise. While in the place of the bus stand, taxi stands, motorcycle stands are running on rent.
They are also ready to pay auto stand rent. He said that the union has decided to stage this dharna due to the grievances of the administration. He said that this is self-employment of auto workers and they do not put any financial burden on the government for it but they get financial support in the government treasury in the form of heavy taxes. Through this employment they support their families. He further said that the district administration has been putting only lare lappe on them for the past one year.
He said that for the success of this strike, the auto workers from across the district will be mobilized by holding meetings. IFTU State President Kulwinder Singh Waraich and Deputy Secretary Avtar Singh Tari said that other organizations related to IFTU will fully participate in this protest of auto workers. It may be mentioned here that Kirti Kisan Union has also supported this strike.
