Hoshiarpur 08 February 2024- People have started protesting against Adani Group's Ambuja Cement Factory proposed to be set up in the land of Ranyala, Sardullapur and Badhoan villages near Sala Khurd in Garhshankar Tehsil. In the public hearing held last month to set up this factory, complaints were made by the people of the area to the Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur and some other departments, allegedly regarding the eyesore of the people.
After which today SDM Garshankar held a meeting with the concerned people. In today's meeting, apart from Axion, Ambuja Cement Company representatives of Punjab Pollution Control Board, Tarsem Singh Jassowal, JP Handa, Inderpal Singh, Gurmukh Singh Sodhi, Sona Singh, Baba Nagar Singh, Iqbal Singh, Harjit Singh from 'Environmental Struggle Committee'. Bhatpur Davinder Fauzi and other important people of the area joined. Apart from these, representatives of various political parties and other organizations also protested in large numbers at the SDM office and demanded that the Ambuja Cement Factory not be approved.
In the meeting where the Punjab Pollution Control Board officials claimed that the public hearing held recently was according to the rules And Ambuja company representatives counted the benefits of the factory There, the representatives of 'Environmental Protection Struggle Committee' answered them by answering questions side by side.
The members of the Sangharsh Committee raised the question that everything is propagated loudly by the government departments But why only one Namdar from dozens of villages in the area and only 40-50 people out of thousands of people were invited for the public hearing. On this, the SDM asked Axion to provide the list of people who attended the public hearing and the office bearers of the videography struggle committee. The members of the Sangharsh Committee told the representatives of Ambuja Cement Company that if you are so concerned about employment, then set up an industry that does not spread pollution, we will support you. The committee members said that the environment cannot be left to the pollution control board officials.
Later, while addressing the protest, the spokesperson of the committee, JP Handa, said that if the factory is built So the displacement of people due to pollution is certain in the coming years And we will prove guilty to future generations. If sources are to be believed, the issue of Ambuja Cement Factory may emerge on a large scale in the coming days And for this, struggle programs are being drawn up at different levels by the struggle committee.
