SAS Nagar, January 16 - Recently, the Municipal Corporation Mohali was ranked first in Punjab and 82nd among the cities across the country under the cleanliness survey by the Central Government. The state of cleanliness has become such that the garbage and other rubbish scattered along the city roads are not picked up for many days, due to which the level of cleanliness of the city is also questioned.

There are heaps of tree leaves, bushes and other debris on the roadside in various places in the quarters of the local Phase 4, which have not been cleared even after many days have passed. According to the local residents, after pruning the trees on the roadsides, these bushes and other dry things are thrown here by the employees of the corporation. Apart from this, steps and fences etc. have been installed in the area adjacent to the houses of the district residents, their gardeners also put the pile on the footpath after pruning and later this dirt is cleaned by the Municipal Corporation vehicle.

Local residents say that due to the non-cleaning of this pollution by the employees of the corporation, common people throw the garbage of their houses here, which starts to rot and there is a bad smell in it. He said that people who are inconsiderate of each other throw garbage here due to which the residents of the adjoining huts have to bear a lot of trouble. Despite complaining to the local councilor, this pollution is not cleared. The demand of the people is that this pollution should be removed immediately.

On being contacted in this regard, Municipal Corporation Councilor Rupinder Kaur Reena said that they have complained about this issue to the Municipal Corporation's Cleaning Branch several times and have also complained to the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation. But no action takes place.

On talking to Deepak, sanitary inspector of this area of the municipal corporation, he said that the work of cleaning the branches, leaves and bushes collected due to pruning of trees has to be done by the horticulture department and the cleaning workers working in this area say K refuses to pick it up saying that they won't clean it themselves, that's why this problem arises. He said that he had asked the concerned officer of the horticulture branch to clear the matter and he would tell him again.
