During the meeting held under the chairmanship of Municipal Corporation Mayor S. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, it was decided to allocate the work of mechanical cleaning of A and B roads of the city, regular recruitment of fire brigade and office staff, maintenance of village street lights, advertising sites. Several important resolutions were approved, including the issuance of tenders and purchase of fire station equipment.
At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Mayor S. Kuljit Singh Bedi, talking about the strike by the sanitation workers, said that these sanitation workers are getting very low salary and their salary should be made equal to that of Chandigarh. He said that the minimum salary of all contract workers including cleaning workers should be made 15 thousand rupees per month, which was approved by the members.
During the meeting, resolutions were passed to purchase equipment worth Rs. 25 lakhs for the fire brigade, to install water meters in community centers, to extend the contract of the canteen of Silvi Park for one year, to fix the rates of new water connection for the construction of the building. done Along with this, a resolution was passed to recruit leading firemen, firemen, fire drivers and office vacancies in the municipal corporation and fire brigade.
During the meeting, a resolution was also passed to issue a work order of Rs. 415446504 to Global Waste Management Cell Private Limited regarding the purchase of self-propelled machines for 5 years for mechanical cleaning of A and B roads of 4 Har. On this occasion, the councilors complained about the poor condition of the city's sanitation system and demanded that it be improved immediately. On this occasion, Councilors Jasmeet Kaur Gill, Gurmeet Kaur, Rupinder Kaur Reena and other councilors said that there is no cleaning for many days and neither is the garbage removed. He said that it needs to be improved immediately. On this, Mayor Jiti Sidhu said that when the mechanical cleaning work starts, more cleaning workers will be able to attend for this and the cleaning system will be improved.
During the meeting, there was a heated debate on the resolution to fix new rates of outdoor media devices and Councilor Manjit Singh Sethi demanded to pass the resolution to conduct a vigilance investigation in this work alleging corruption in the past. He said that for the last two years, the officials of the municipal corporation have been arbitrarily organizing the advertisement of the companies on the sites and there is no accounting for it. When the officials feel like it and for as many days as they like, a company is put on the market and there is a lot of corruption in this work.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Navjot Kaur denied S. Sethi's allegations and said that first it is necessary to understand why the approval of the department has taken so long. He said that approvals from various departments are required for these boards of directors and if the members want, they can provide full details of the action taken by the authorities in this regard. He said that there is no point in making accusations in this way but the councilors should praise the work of the officers. On this occasion, Deputy Mayor S. Kuljit Singh Bedi said that the advertisement board should be given for at least one month and if it is extended even by one day, then the additional cost of one month should be charged and the money should be taken according to the new rates till tender.
During the meeting, Councilor Vineet Malik objected to the local government not approving the works passed by the house of societies of different sectors of Mohali and demanded that these works be sent for review again. He said that all the works of the societies were being done during the previous government, but since the coming of the new government, the resolutions of these works are not getting the approval of the government. He said that if we collect tax from the residents of these societies then it is our responsibility to do their work. He clearly said that if the government cancels the works of these societies again, then they will knock the door of this court.
During the meeting, councilors of different villages, Harjit Singh Baidwan, Harjinder Kaur Baidwan, Gurpreet Kaur, Sucha Singh Kalor, Kamalpreet Singh Banni, Bibi Ramanpreet Kaur, Kamaljit Kaur and others alleged that seven-storied buildings were being constructed in the villages in an unauthorized manner. While the maps of the common people are not being passed and the officials of the corporation work with money. He said that the officials should survey the villages and see. On this, the mayor said that a committee will be formed to survey the villages.
During the meeting, the issue of continuous encroachments in the city was also raised and the members said that illegal encroachments are increasing with the connivance of the corporation officials. On this occasion, after the commissioner said that the councilors came with recommendations to stop the action. Councilor Harjinder Kaur said that the commissioner should make the names of those councilors public or withdraw their words. On this occasion, Giant Commissioner Kiran Sharma said that the corporation will soon launch a campaign against illegal encroachments and they will be eliminated, but this is possible only if the councilors cooperate with the authorities.
