Nagar, November 21 - Mohali Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has condemned the decision of GAMADA to stop the registration of builders who do not pay EDC and said that the fault of GAMADA in its responsibility is on those people. Those who have purchased properties from these builders are being demolished.

In the statement issued here, Mr. Bedi said that at least half a dozen builders in Mohali are Gamada defaulters who, far from paying the EDC money to Gamada, have not even deposited the property price. He said that GAMADA allowed these builders to sell the property on depositing 25 percent of the money and these builders have taken up to 90 percent of the money from the people so far. He said that the projects of some builders are completely stalled and lakhs of crores of rupees of people are already stuck in them. Mr. Bedi said that actually it should have been that the officials of GAMADA should have strictly monitored the actions of these builders so that the money of GAMADA does not stop and the people also do not suffer.

He said that corruption is going on at a very large scale in Gamada and collusion of officials with some builders has ruined the hard earned money of the people. They have demanded a high-level investigation into the entire matter and demanded strict action against the responsible officials of GAMADA. Along with this, they have also demanded that the government should not rein in this decision of GAMADA and people's registries should not be closed because people have collected money from these builders for which along with their lifetime earnings, people have Loans have also been taken from banks and they are also paying the installments of this loan. He said that even on this loan of the bank, he has to pay heavy interest and without any fault, he is having to bear the consequences of negligence.

He said that if Gamada does not withdraw its decision, they will take the residents of the area and start a struggle against Gamada and will also knock the door of the court, the full responsibility of which will be on the officials of Gamada. He also demanded that the money from the builders who have deposited EDC to GAMADA should be immediately invested by GAMADA in development works outside these projects. He said that Gamada takes crores of rupees from the builders in the name of EDC, but in the name of development, not even a dakka is broken.
