Kachyang was once considered a strong contender against President Xi Jinping. Kachyang, who has been the Prime Minister since March 2013, was removed from office on March 11 of the same year. According to state-run newspaper China Chely, Kachyang suffered a heart attack on Thursday. All efforts were made to save him, but he died in Shanghai at 12:10 pm. He was once considered a strong contender against Jinping to lead the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC). He was an eminent economist and helped the world's second largest economy deal with recession after decades of high growth.
Kachyang's wife Cheng Hong was a professor at Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing. The death of Kachyang in China has surprised many people.
