Chandigarh (Paigam-E-Jagat) Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang said that the BJP, Akali Dal and Congress leaders are misleading the people on the issue of SYL while Congress and Akali Dal are directly responsible for the construction of SYL in Punjab.
Kang said that the issue of SYL is connected with the sentiments of the people of Punjab. He said that the stand of the Hon'ble government is clear that the Punjab government will not allow SYL to be formed and will not give a single drop to any other state.
Kang questioned Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar that he used to say in 2016 that the Prime Minister can solve this issue, then instead of besieging the Chief Minister, why not ask the Prime Minister to solve the issue quickly. say Kang said that the late Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was the first to issue the notification to acquire land for SYL in 1978. This notification was issued at the request of his friend, former Chief Minister of Haryana Chaudhary Devi Lal. He said that Sukhbir Badal should look at his history before accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He said that the BJP and the Akali Dal are trying to break the relationship that was formed between the farmers of Punjab and Haryana during the Kisan movement.
Kang said that in 1980, Congress Chief Minister Darbara Singh gave an affidavit in the Supreme Court that we have no objection to giving water to Haryana and Rajasthan as per our wish. He gave this affidavit at the request of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. After that, in 1982, Indira Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the construction of SYL at Kapuri in the presence of Captain Amarinder Singh.
