Kartarpur - In the case of murder of Dalit construction workers by caste-arrogant people over the construction of a wall of a farmer's family in village Kala Bahian under Kartarpur police station on September 8, the Rural Workers Union Punjab today staged a sit-in protest at Ambedkar Chowk here and demanded that the remaining culprits be arrested and justice be given to the victims. DSP Kartarpur Surinderpal Dhogri, who reached among the protesters on the spot, said that 6 people including 5 named culprits have been arrested and LOC has been issued against one person and he will be arrested soon. Naib Tehsildar Kartarpur Amarjit Singh assured justice to the victim family of deceased Sukhdev Singh, resident of Pattar Khurd, along with compensation of Rs 8.50 lakh, half the amount within two days. On which the union ended the strike and warned that if the administration does not fulfill its promise, then we will be forced to sit on a sit-in protest by placing the dead body at the administration's door. *The victim's family has not performed the last rites of the deceased even on the 11th day today and has announced to perform the last rites only after the demands are met.*
On this occasion, the union leaders condemned the Bhagwant Mann government and said that the current state government is also considering the employees as second class citizens. He said that the victim Dalit family has not performed the last rites of the deceased construction worker since September 8 demanding justice, but this government is also adopting an anti-labor attitude. Bad incidents were happening with the workers every day. There is no proper arrangement for the safety of workers in the state and neither is the government ready to become the successor of the workers. He said that all the culprits in the Kala Bahiya murder case were not arrested and adequate compensation was also not given as per the law. However, in the case of Dalit murder, compensation has to be given to the victim's family before the post-mortem. He said that the Scheduled Caste Commission has also been sleeping for a long time and is proving to be a white elephant.

It is worth noting that on September 8, a farmer family in village Kala Bahiya had called masons and other laborers to build the wall of their plot. There was a dispute with the neighbours regarding the wall. After the construction of the wall, when the family was going to drop the mason and labourers at the base, the other party attacked them under a false conspiracy. And in the name of caste pride, Dalit labourer Sukhdev Singh son of Lachhman Singh resident Patthar Khurd and another resident of Himachal Pradesh were murdered. Kartarpur police registered a case of murder and arrested some murderers and on 10 September, after the intervention of Rural Labour Union Punjab, SC, ST Act was added in the case. And the case was sent to the welfare officer for the arrest of the remaining culprits and the victim's family was assured of getting compensation according to the law. According to the information, the police administration has prepared the compensation case and sent it to the welfare department. The district administration has deliberately rubbed salt on the wounds of the victim Dalit family by delaying against the rules, which is highly condemnable. He said that the politicians who are enjoying power by taking advantage of Dalit reservation have completely forgotten the common Dalit workers and their tongue is also shut in the case of murder of Kala Bahia workers. The union leaders said that the government does not understand the workers even when they are alive and even after their death, justice has to be sought by keeping the dead body on the road. They also demanded that the families of MNREGA workers who died after being crushed under a canter in Bishanpura Sunam district Sangrur should be given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh and one of their members should be given a government job.
