A senior official said that the curfew imposed in the capital of Manipur on Tuesday afternoon continued this morning as well, while additional security forces have been deployed and police personnel are constantly patrolling to avoid any untoward incident. "The situation is tense but under control," he said. A student organization claimed that more than 55 students were injured in yesterday's clash between protesters and security forces, who have been admitted to the regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
A statement issued by the Raj Bhavan late on Tuesday said, "The student representatives met Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya and handed over a demand letter to him. The student representatives have urged the governor to take appropriate steps to fulfill their demands. The Governor has assured them that they will take steps in the best interest of the students and the people of Manipur. Meanwhile, the police said in a statement that weapons and explosive materials have been recovered during the search operation in Kangpokpi district.
