Nawanshahr, August 21 - Leaders and workers of various organizations staged a sit-in at the local Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Chowk on the issue of reservation. Of course, the number of workers was less, but those who were there were ready to put forward their point and work, while no representative of the Bahujan Samaj Party joined the sit-in that lasted for more than two hours.
One reason for this is also believed to be the lack of workers at the protest site, while messages of support were going on in WhatsApp groups for a few days. In the case of open markets in the city, the protesters said that their aim is to oppose the decision and not to stop anyone's employment. On this occasion, Babu Kanshi Ram Social Welfare Society leaders Nikku Ram Janagal, Simran Simmi, Satish Kumar Lal and Makhan Lal Chauhan, along with some other leaders, said that on August 1, 2024, the Supreme Court has taken a decision regarding reservation on the basis of creamy layer. The protest was held to cancel that decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Parliament by making a constitutional amendment.
This decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court is likely to cause further division in the society. Due to which a new hatred between the rich and the poor will be created in every caste of Scheduled Caste and Tribe. Just like the rich Adharmi or Valmiki of creamy layer will increase the distance between the poor Adharmi or Valmiki of their own society, which will create new hatred. The basis of SC/ST reservation is caste based discrimination and not on economic basis.
He further said that the Government of India should pass the Constitution Amendment Bill in the Parliament and cancel this decision of the Honorable Supreme Court and enter the reservation in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution so that no government or court can tamper with the reservation. Former District Education Officer Dilbag Singh and some other leaders were also present on this occasion.
