'Red Run' marathon in Una on August 22

Una, August 17- A 5 km 'Red Run' marathon will be organized on August 22 in Una with the aim of increasing awareness among students about HIV and AIDS. Organized by the joint efforts of the district administration, health department, and district AIDS prevention and control unit, 84 students in the age group of 17 to 25 from 14 educational institutions of the district running 'Red Ribbon Clubs' will participate in this marathon. These will include 42 boys and 42 girls. 3 boys and 3 girls will take part from each participating institution in the marathon.

Una, August 17- A 5 km 'Red Run' marathon will be organized on August 22 in Una with the aim of increasing awareness among students about HIV and AIDS. Organized by the joint efforts of the district administration, health department, and district AIDS prevention and control unit, 84 students in the age group of 17 to 25 from 14 educational institutions of the district running 'Red Ribbon Clubs' will participate in this marathon. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar held a meeting of the organizing committee in the CMO office on Saturday regarding the marathon. He gave necessary instructions to the concerned officials regarding the smooth organization of the marathon. The Additional Deputy Commissioner asked the police department to smoothly manage the traffic during the marathon. He also instructed to keep an ambulance stationed on the spot for the health safety of the participants and to make arrangements for refreshments for the children.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that the objective of this marathon is to spread awareness about HIV in the society and to inspire the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Apart from this, awareness is also created to avoid drug addiction and other risky behaviors, which can put them at risk of getting infected with HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

The institutions participating in the marathon are Government College Bangana, Lala Jagat Narayan Himotkarsh Kanya Mahavidyalaya Una, KC College Pandoga, Government Degree College Una, Government College Bhatoli, SBDM Government College Beaton, Government Degree College Chintpurni, Indus International University Bathu, Government Degree College Amb, DAV College Daulatpur Chowk, Government Degree College Haroli, Government Degree College Chowki Manyar, Government Degree College Khadd and Government College Kotla Khurd.
This will be the route of the marathon
The 'Red Run' marathon will start from Rampur on August 22 at 8 am and will end at Rampur via Sombhadra Bridge. Participants securing first, second and third positions in the men and women categories will be given cash prizes of Rs 2500, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500 respectively and four consolation prizes of Rs 700 each. These cash prizes will be given to the winners when they participate in the state level marathon to be held in the first week of September. Certificates will be given to the winning participants at the end of the marathon.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. S.K. Verma, District AIDS Control Program Officer Dr. Ramesh Rattu, Joint Director of Industries Department Anshul Dhiman, Medical Superintendent Dr. Sanjay Mankotia, MOH Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Sidhu, Dr. Ravindra Mohan, District Sports and Youth Affairs Officer Uttam Dod and other members of the committee were present in the meeting.
