Una, 7 August - Farmers of the district should ensure to get their potato crop insured by 31 August. Giving this information, Deputy Director Agriculture Dr Kulbhushan Dhiman said that the date for insuring the crop of potato producers of Una, Haroli, Amb and Gagret blocks of the district under the weather based crop insurance scheme by the Agriculture Insurance Company has been fixed as 31 August. The Deputy Director said that the premium amount payable by the farmer for the crop is Rs 300 and the insured amount is Rs 6 thousand per kanal. He said that the non-loanee farmers who want to get their potato crop insured should submit the necessary documents such as Aadhar card, bank passbook, land fard and crop sowing certificate at their nearest Lok Mitra Kendra and the farmers who cultivate potato by taking land on contract will have to get an affidavit made and attach it. Apart from this, the crop insurance of loanee farmers will be done by the concerned bank branch.
Dr Kulbhushan Dhiman said that in the last few years, the company has provided claims to farmers across the district. This amount is about 5 to 6 times more than the premium payable by the farmer. While 436 farmers had insured their crops in Kharif 2022, the number increased to 610 in Kharif 2023. In Kharif 2022, a claim of Rs 1 crore 60 lakh was distributed to the farmers in lieu of the premium of Rs 34 lakh. The claim for the year 2023 will soon be deposited in the accounts of the farmers.
