Una, August 7- President and Deputy Commissioner of District Red Cross Society Una, Jatin Lal has urged the members of the Red Cross Society to make special efforts to connect more and more people with the society. He said that the Red Cross Society has an important role in supporting the poor and the destitute, therefore it is necessary to connect more and more people with the society as lifetime members so that more service can be done to the needy. Jatin Lal was presiding over the executive committee meeting of the District Red Cross Society.

He said that the Red Cross Society has an important role in supporting the poor and the destitute, therefore it is necessary to connect more and more people with the society as lifetime members so that more service can be done to the needy. Jatin Lal was presiding over the executive committee meeting of the District Red Cross Society.
The Deputy Commissioner also stressed on saving the youth from drug addiction and creating mass public awareness about overall health and fitness. He informed that the district administration has started a new project named 'Samarthya' for the overall welfare and upliftment of the society, which will be run through Red Cross. A separate bank account has been kept for this, in which contribution and cooperation is expected from all people including industrial establishments of the district.
He said that in the first phase under Samarthya, the administration has taken the responsibility of helping girls from economically weaker sections of the district in higher education. Under this, 25 needy girls from poor families will be provided financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh for their degree or higher education. Applications for this scheme can be made in the Deputy Commissioner's office till August 25. Eligibility includes those girls whose father has passed away or whose father is more than 70 percent disabled. The applicant should be a resident of Una district, should not be a beneficiary of any other scheme and the annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 50,000.
During the meeting, Red Cross Society Secretary and CPO Sanjay Sankhyan presented a detailed account of the activities of the society. He said that the society has done many public welfare works including construction of libraries at sub-division level, de-addiction campaign, plantation of trees, blood donation camps. Along with this, about Rs 28.50 lakh has been spent on providing artificial limbs and other assistive devices for the disabled. He said that due to the coordinated efforts of everyone, Una district has been leading in the de-addiction campaign and the district has been honored at the national level.
On this occasion, non-official member of the executive committee and life member of Red Cross, District Congress Committee President Ranjit Singh Rana thanked the Deputy Commissioner for speeding up Red Cross activities. He assured active cooperation from everyone in the campaign to connect more and more people with Red Cross. During this, District Congress Committee President Ranjit Singh Rana, Congress spokesperson Vijay Dogra, Press Club Una President and Patron Red Cross Surendra Sharma, Patron Red Cross Surendra Thakur, Rakesh Kaushal, Varinder Dharmani along with non-official and official members of the committee gave their valuable suggestions to make the functioning of the society more effective and to connect people with Red Cross and to generate income.
