Inauguration of World Breastfeeding Week 2024 was done by Dr Suman Singh, Director Health & Family Welfare, Chandigarh Administration in the presence of District Family Welfare Officer, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Chandigarh Administration, Programme Officers, HOD of Department of Pediatrics along with their staff. The theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2024 is Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support to all which encompasses creation of safe and supportive environment where mothers can breastfeed comfortably and confidently. The poster regarding Do’s and Don’ts of Breastfeeding was unveiled by Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health & Family Welfare-cum- Mission Director (NHM), Chandigarh Administration Dr. Savita Rathi, Medical Officer, Department of Pediatrics, GMSH-16, Chandigarh sensitized proud mother and health care providers regarding early initiation of Breastfeeding, right technique of Breastfeeding, benefits of colostrums, Role of expressed Breast milk in case of working mothers and emphasized on avoiding promotion of Breast Milk Substitutes, commercial formula foods and feeding equipment under Infant Milk and Substitute (IMS) Act. Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health & Family Welfare-cum- Mission Director (NHM), Chandigarh Administration appreciated the efforts of health care providers working in field and sensitized them regarding the correct posture of mother and child during breastfeeding. Further, she urged the health care providers to kick start this campaign with quality counseling sessions to mothers right from the antenatal period and ensure Breastfeeding within one hour of birth.
