The "Angdaan Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan" campaign concluded with a grand Cyclothon event, highlighting the importance of organ donation ahead of Indian Organ Donation Day on August 3, 2024.
The event was flagged off by Prof. R.K.Ratho, Dean Academics at PGIMER, with participation from over 150 cyclists, including doctors, army officers, and community members. Organized in collaboration with Command Hospital, Chandi Mandir, and Cycle Giri, the Cyclothon started from PGIMER Campus and Command Hospital, ending at Sukhna Lake.
Maj Gen Mathews Jacob, Director & Commandant of Command Hospital, praised the event's success, emphasizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle and organ donation. Prof.R.K.Ratho encouraged the community to support organ donation, calling it an altruistic act. Dr. Sunaina Bansal of Cycle Giri likened cycling to life's journey, advocating for awareness and hope through organ donation.
Inspector Parvesh, a live liver donor, shared his experience, while student ambassador Japita emphasized youth involvement. The family of donor Parth Gandhi, who saved multiple lives with his organs after his tragic accident in 2013, shared their inspirational story.
Prof. Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent, PGIMER, expressed gratitude to all partners, urging continued efforts to raise awareness and dispel myths about organ donation. The event concluded with the recognition of participants and dignitaries, celebrating the message of hope, life, and giving.
