Chandigarh - Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Amarinder Singh Raja Waring today appealed to the BJP government in Parliament, especially Health Minister JP Nadda, to provide free cancer treatment in India. Highlighting the alarming rise in cancer cases, Waring said, “Cancer is a disease that affects a large number of people across our country.
He said after being elected as Member of Parliament from Ludhiana on June 4, I have signed several letters seeking cancer treatment and subsidies through the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. Emphasizing the growing concern in Punjab, the Congress President said, “In the last three years, the incidence rate of cancer in Punjab has increased by 7.45%. The estimated number of cancer cases in Punjab from 2021 to 2024 has increased from 39,521 to 42,288. In women, there are cases mainly affected by women's breast and uterus cancer. While men suffer from cancer of the alimentary canal mainly due to alcohol consumption and dietary fat." In his appeal, the Ludhiana MP drew attention to the socio-economic challenges faced by cancer patients, especially those from middle-class families or the common man. “India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world but there is still a significant population living below the poverty line or living less privileged lives.
These individuals require substantial financial support for cancer treatment. They have to struggle a lot to raise funds for these treatments. Raja Waring asked Health Minister JP Nadda serious questions and urged him to take a more compassionate approach to cancer treatment. He asked, "Why can't cancer treatment and its medicine be made free for the needy?" Why can't the treatment of a dangerous disease like cancer be free in our country? , especially for the poor, why is the Indian government not trying to reduce the suffering of families already burdened by cancer by making it free of charge?
He passionately added, “Can't we ensure that people below a certain income level get free cancer treatment? Instead of just providing subsidies, can't the Indian government offer free treatment to such persons and save lives?” Amarinder Singh Raja Waring's demands emphasize the urgent need for a strong and equitable health care system that prioritizes the well-being of all citizens, especially those suffering from chronic diseases like cancer. His call for free cancer treatment for the poor resonates with the broader goal of making healthcare accessible and affordable for every Indian.
