Chandigarh - Social Security, Women and Child Development Department rehabilitated 77 child beggars under the Child Begging Free Campaign. This was expressed by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur here today. Giving more information in this regard, the cabinet minister said that the department is running a campaign in the state to protect the childhood of children involved in child alms.
Chandigarh - Social Security, Women and Child Development Department rehabilitated 77 child beggars under the Child Begging Free Campaign. This was expressed by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur here today. Giving more information in this regard, the cabinet minister said that the department is running a campaign in the state to protect the childhood of children involved in child alms. Under which the children involved in child begging were rescued and efforts have been made for their rehabilitation. This campaign to eliminate child begging in the state will be conducted continuously every second week of the month. During this campaign, a total of 77 children have been rescued so far in different districts of the state, out of which 20 children have been sent to children's homes being run in the state due to lack of shelter. Education, food, health facilities, etc. will be provided to the children in these orphanages. The rest of the children have been handed over to their parents through the Child Welfare Committee. Out of these 8 children have benefited from the sponsorship scheme, 13 children are being processed for school admission and one child has been admitted to Anganwadi. Dr. Baljit Kaur further informed that under the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act 2015, 07 Government Children's Homes and 39 Non-Government Homes have been registered in the state in which provision is made to keep orphans, destitute and surrendered children. He appealed to the people to give information regarding the safety of children to the District Child Protection Unit or the Child Welfare Committee of their district. The Cabinet Minister said that the state government is committed to the protection of destitute and needy children under the Mission Vatsalya scheme so that the child does not face any kind of hardship in the state. He said that social security, women and child development department is taking multifaceted efforts to ensure the safety of children. Mission Vatsalya Scheme (Child Protection Scheme) is being run by the Department for the protection and welfare of children whose main objective is proper care, protection, development, treatment and rehabilitation of children in the society.
