Chandigarh:- Sahitya Vigyan Kendra Chandigarh today celebrated Van Maha-Utsav by planting different types of saplings in Sector 51. President of Bhagat Puran Singh Environmental Service-Maintenance Society Gurmail Singh Mojowal ji shed light on the importance of trees. Gurdarshan Singh Mavi, President of Sahitya Vigyan Kendra Chandigarh, shared ideas with the members about choosing the place for planting saplings, bringing the saplings from the nursery and taking care of them beforehand. The planting of saplings in the park was started by the women members by planting the saplings of Beheda. Amarjit Kaur, Davinder Kaur Dhillon, Simarjit Kaur Grewal, Rajinder Renu, Charanjit Kaur Bath, Neelam Rana, journalist Satwinder Kaur, Gursharan Kaur together planted a common sapling. Each female member planted a sapling named after her. Similarly, male members planted saplings together and some members planted saplings named after themselves. These included the plants of Bahera, Mango, Tamarind, Chakrathia, Neem, Altamas, Jaman, Kachnar, Banyan etc. Some saplings were also planted in the yard of Model Jail Chandigarh. Bharpoor Singh, Labh Singh Lahili, Tarsem Raj, Harjit Singh, Sajjan Singh, Rajwinder Singh Gaddu, Parlad Singh, Surinder Kumar were present on this occasion. Many members also recited songs about trees while planting saplings and refreshments. Thus, the members of Sahitya Vigyan Kendra Chandigarh felt satisfied by fulfilling their responsibility towards the society.
