Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana will provide subsidy to farmers on authentic varieties of maize through DBT at the rate of Rs 100 per kg or 50% of the purchase price, whichever is less. A farmer will be given subsidy on a maximum of 5 acres i.e. 10 packets of seeds. Small and medium farmers will be given priority for subsidy. On this occasion, District Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Davinder Singh said that to get higher yield of maize, it is advisable to sow maize in a wider area. Maize is a good option for farmers to promote groundwater conservation and crop diversification. This year, maize is likely to get a boost due to the good price of the maize crop. He appealed to the farmers to dry the maize and sell it in the market and get a good price and the farmers of the nearby villages should take full advantage of the maize dryer installed in village Fuglana for drying maize. Farmers can contact the District Agriculture Development Officer and Block Agriculture Officer to get more information regarding the maize crop.
