Chandigarh:- The Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan: 'Catch the Rain-2024' to optimise rainwater harvesting and other sustainable water management practices. In order to increase the participation of residents of Chandigarh to conserve rainwater, Chandigarh Administration has intensified its efforts to increase awareness about ‘Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls’, keeping in view the upcoming monsoon season. As per Building Bylaws, the installation of Rainwater Harvesting System (RWHS) is mandatory for properties of one kanal and above since 2017. Hence, to ensure maximum percolation of rainwater to ground, Chandigarh Administration has decided to check whether the mandatory RWHS are in functional state or not.The decision of Administration is in line with its ambitious aim of making Chandigarh ‘most sustainable’ by 2030. Such endeavours are needed for an hour to tackle the depleting levels of groundwater and for the requirements of coming generations.
