Surrey (Canada), June 25 - Punjabi Cultural Association of Alberta Edmonton organized a special event in honour of Ghazal Manch Surrey poets Krishan Bhanot, Jaswinder, Hardam Maan and Preet Manpreet. Many writers and Punjabi lovers from Edmonton and surrounding areas gathered at the recent event of the association. Gurtej Singh welcomed the guest poets and gave a brief introduction and after that these poets talked about their literary journey and their poetry.
Ustad poet Krishan Bhanot mentioned the background and initial difficulties of Punjabi Ghazal and highlighted the journey of Punjabi Ghazal so far. He also recited two of his Ghazals. President of Ghazal Manch Surrey Jaswinder praised the writers and readers of Edmonton and said that it is a matter of great joy that in today's materialistic age you all are connected with words and literature. It is very difficult to come to these countries and spend so much time, keeping your senses alive. All of you are very sensitive people who are concerned about society and your surroundings. He also shared some of his works. Hardam Mann and Preet Manpreet gave a brief introduction of themselves and also presented their ghazals.
On this occasion, Dr. RP Kalia, senior leader of the Punjabi Cultural Association of Alberta, talked about the establishment of this association and the background and current context of literary and cultural activities in Edmonton. He read two of his poems on the current situation. Varinder Kaur, Manjit Brar, Baksh Sangha, Navtej Bains, Colonel Sherpuri, Dr. Kamal, Gurinder Kalsi, Sunny Dhaliwal, Sewak Singh, Simar, Pavitra Dhaliwal and Kirtimit also recited their poetic compositions. Alberta MLA Jasvir Deol, who arrived specially at the program, welcomed poets Krishna Bhanot, Jaswinder, Hardam Mann and Preet Manpreet and honored the literary contribution of these poets and awarded them certificates on behalf of the Alberta Legislative Assembly. The entire program was conducted by Gurtej Singh and he kept the atmosphere pleasant by presenting in his special style.
