Patiala, June 14 - Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Ahmed Pare, while reviewing the strategy made by the district administration to prevent floods in Patiala district, ordered the concerned departments that all the arrangements should be completed before the onset of rainy season. He said that it should be ensured that the daily report of all the works going on under the flood prevention drainage department and other departments should be submitted at the Deputy Commissioner's office.
 The Deputy Commissioner said that special work should be done in those areas which had floods during the rainy season during the last year. He instructed to set up flood control room at every sub-division level along with the cleaning of village ponds. He said that due to blocking of sheet flow during rainy season, flood like conditions are created, in this regard people should be made aware in advance that legal action will be taken for obstructing the natural flow of water.
Shaukat Ahmed Pare, talking about the sub-division level plan, said that teams have been formed under the leadership of SDM. So that immediate action can be taken in any situation. He asked the SDMs to prepare a plan for each sector at the sub-division level In which there are complete details of the nodal officer of each department so that the sector plan can be implemented immediately if required. He reviewed the communication plan made by the officials of water drainage, irrigation, public works, market board, water supply and sewerage board, local government and other related departments and the plan made for flood prevention and said that sensitive places with possible floods and low-lying areas A specific action plan should be worked out for the regions. He said that no negligence should be used in any work and all the officers should supervise all the work themselves.
SP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Manisha Rana, ADC Madam Kanchan, Dr. Harjinder Singh Bedi and Navreet Kaur Sekhon, SP Harwant Kaur along with all SDMs and senior officials of related departments were also present in the meeting.
