SAS Nagar, June 10 - Deputy Mayor of Mohali Municipal Corporation Kuljit Singh Bedi has written a letter to Municipal Corporation Commissioner Navjot Kaur demanding to issue a notice to the contractor company (Global Waste Management Company) for not starting the work of mechanical cleaning. The Deputy Mayor has also demanded action against the concerned contractor for the lack of workers and lack of cleanliness on A and B roads.
In his letter, he has written that the condition of cleanliness in the city is very bad. There are heaps of garbage on A and B roads. He said that the contractor is not providing labor on A and B roads as per the tender. The Municipal Corporation already has a shortage of workers and the Municipal Corporation union has refused to clean A and B roads, due to which the condition of cleanliness has worsened.
Mr. Bedi said that due to monsoon rains in the coming days, all this dirt will go on the roads and the roads will be closed. This will cause the problem of waterlogging on the roads and in people's houses, the responsibility of which will be of the Municipal Corporation. They demand that action should be taken against this contractor and alternative arrangements should be made because the image of the city is also getting tarnished due to the pollution spread on the main roads of the city.
Mr. Bedi said that apart from this, Global Waste Management Cell Private Limited, which got the contract for mechanical sweeping on the main A and B roads of the city, was allotted the work by the Municipal Corporation on 27 February 2024 and under this, the work which was to start within 90 days has been delayed, but there is still no hope of the work starting soon.
He said that a notice should be issued to the said company to start this work immediately and an immediate decision should be taken keeping in mind the public interest and cleanliness of the city.
