The Excise & Taxation Department has taken an initiative to create awareness amongst the General Public by a way of pasting the sticker at all kinds commercial establishments like Retails shops, eateries, restaurants, etc.

Encouraging Voter Participation: Chandigarh Hotels and Bars to Offer Discounts In order to promote voter participation and ensure that every voice is heard in the democratic process by way of casting the vote. The Excise & Taxation Department has taken an initiative to create awareness amongst the General Public by a way of pasting the sticker at all kinds commercial establishments like Retails shops, eateries, restaurants, etc. Further, a meeting with the representatives and presidents of various associations of hotels, restaurants and popular eateries in Chandigarh was held under the chairmanship of Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner-cum-Collector (Excise), U.T. Chandigarh. The primary agenda of the meeting was to discuss initiatives to encourage greater voter turnout in the upcoming elections and implementation in letter and spirit of notified dry days under Section 135 (c) of the representation of the People Act, 1951 in all Excise Establishments (Retailers/Suppliers/Bottling Units) on 30.05.2024 (onwards 06:00 PM) to 01.06.2024 (till 06:00 PM). The representative of hotel, restaurants and popular eateries lauded the initiative to incentivize voting by offering at-least 10% discount to citizens, who cast their vote on 01 June, 2024. This discount will be available on 01 June, 2024 at participating hotels, restaurants and popular eateries to any citizen who shows their inked finger as proof of voting. The department aims to encourage every eligible voter in Chandigarh to participate in the democratic process. Voting is a fundamental right and a civic duty, and we hope that this initiative will motivate more citizens to come out and vote.
