Heart-warming act of Organ Donation by a brave-heart donor family gives second lease of life to one terminally ill renal failure patient at PGIMER Chandigarh Chandigarh, August 14, 2024: In a poignant and heart-warming act of compassion, the family of 3-year-old Kanchan, who tragically lost her life after being hit by a car, has donated her organs, giving the gift of life to those in dire need. Kanchan, daughter of Lal Singh from Kaimbwala, Chandigarh, was admitted to GMSH 16 on July 28, and later shifted to PGIMER Chandigarh the same day. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Kanchan was declared brain dead on August 6, following thorough assessments by brain stem death committee. Little girl Kanchan’s father, Sh. Lal Singh, in a profound gesture of altruism, consented to donate all her organs, resulting in the successful retrieval and transplantation of both kidneys at PGIMER Chandigarh. Both of Kanchan's kidneys were transplanted into a 26 yrs old female matching recipient from Chandigarh, giving her a new lease on life. The entire process was meticulously coordinated by the dedicated PGIMER staff, involving extensive laboratory investigations and seamless interdepartmental collaboration to ensure the successful completion of the transplant. Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER, expressed his heartfelt gratitude: "In the face of unimaginable grief, Lal Singh's decision to donate his beloved daughter's organs is a beacon of hope and humanity. Kanchan's noble gesture will forever be remembered and cherished, as it embodies the true spirit of organ donation and the potential to save multiple lives." **Prof. Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent , PGIMER cum Nodal Officer, ROTTO *, also commended the family's selflessness: "The courage and compassion demonstrated by Kanchan's family, especially in such a difficult time, is truly inspirational. We hope that our decision will inspire others to consider organ donation and help save lives." Head Constable Anup Singh of Chandigarh Police, who played a crucial role in counselling and supporting the family during this challenging time, added: "It was a privilege to assist Lal Singh and his family in making this brave decision.
