Burning of crop residues in fields reduces soil fertility by destroying soil micro-organisms. He said that fire smoke causes road accidents and human health deterioration. He said that strict legal action will be taken against the farmers who set fire to the crop residues and as per the instructions of the National Green Tribunal, New Delhi. He issued strict instructions to the cluster officers deployed at village level and village level nodal officers to carry out their duties diligently to sensitize the farmers not to burn crop residues and proper maintenance.
He said that the officials of the monitoring teams formed at the tehsil/block level should hold meetings with the farmers in the villages and make regular announcements about not setting fire to the grain of wheat from the Gurdwara Sahib and within 24 hours of the fire site in the field.
