It is worth mentioning that before the last municipal elections, Mr. Paramjit Singh Kahlon along with a large number of councilors of Akali Dal resigned from Akali Dal. Joined the Azad group led by Kulwant Singh. During the municipal elections, the Azad group had an agreement with the Aam Aadmi Party and Mr. Kahlon contested the election on behalf of the Azad group but lost to the current mayor Amarjit Singh Jiti Sidhu.
Before the assembly elections held after the municipal elections, Mr. Kulwant Singh merged the Azad group into the Aam Aadmi Party, but some former councilors and other leaders of the Akali Dal, including Mr. Paramjit Singh Kahlon, did not join the Aam Aadmi Party. Meanwhile, the Aadmi Party had given the party ticket to Mr. Kulwant Singh and he won the election and became the MLA of the Mohali Constituency.
Meanwhile, former Akali Dal councilor Mr. Parvinder Singh Sohana and his wife and municipal councilor Harjinder Kaur Baidwan had returned home to Akali Dal and contested the election from SAS Nagar constituency on Akali Dal ticket. .
In the past Mr. Paramjit Singh Kahlon neither took the membership of Aam Aadmi Party nor did he join any other party and finally he along with his colleagues is returning home to Shiromani Akali Dal.
