Union leaders said that the Mayor and Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Mohali had assured to accept the demands of the sanitation workers, but none of the demands were accepted. The organization demands that Mohali is an expensive city, people with a salary of Rs 10000/- cannot live here, hence the salary should be increased to Rs 22000/-, special oil allowance of Rs 500/- should be implemented and horticulture wing should be deployed.

State General Secretary of Punjab Safai Karmachari Federation Pawan Godiyal said that why did the Municipal Corporation accept the demands of the Safai Karmacharis? But on the contrary, 200 sanitation workers working in public toilets are being made unemployed. Their demand is that this action should be stopped with immediate effect. He said that 200 sanitation workers would be rendered unemployed and their families would be forced to face starvation, which would not be tolerated at any cost. He said that the strike will continue until the demands are met. He announced that tomorrow morning there will be a gherao in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office by throwing garbage.
