Una, 21 March:- A comprehensive road safety plan will be prepared for Una district. There will be an action plan to make roads safe and traffic risk-free. Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal, while presiding over the meeting of the District Level Road Safety Committee on Thursday, directed the 6 stakeholder departments concerned to submit their proposals in this regard to the Deputy Commissioner's office by March 26. These include education, health, police, urban bodies, public works and transport departments.

Una, 21 March:- A comprehensive road safety plan will be prepared for Una district. There will be an action plan to make roads safe and traffic risk-free. Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal, while presiding over the meeting of the District Level Road Safety Committee on Thursday, directed the 6 stakeholder departments concerned to submit their proposals in this regard to the Deputy Commissioner's office by March 26. These include education, health, police, urban bodies, public works and transport departments.
The Deputy Commissioner asked all the SDMs to hold a meeting with the officials of the Education Department and urban bodies in their area and finalize the road safety proposals and budget estimates. Asked to ensure that all important aspects related to road safety are included in the action plan. At the same time, instructions were given to the district officers of Health, Police, Public Works and Transport Department to prepare and submit their proposals and estimates. A comprehensive plan will be prepared by including these proposals in the District Road Safety Plan, which will be sent to the State Level Road Safety Council for approval and budget provision.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the proposals should also include points like installation of CCTV cameras, crash barriers, parapets, light reflectors, breakers and other equipment, running public awareness campaigns regarding road safety.
Jatin Lal said that identify accident prone places and black spots in the district and work in a planned manner for their improvement. He asked to bring public awareness about road safety and focus on infrastructural improvement and development. He stressed on working to ensure fitness of vehicles and compliance with traffic rules by drivers, strict enforcement of road safety laws and immediate availability of emergency health services.
'Good Smartians' scheme will motivate people to help those injured in road accidents

Those who help the injured will get a citation and a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
The Deputy Commissioner said that a scheme called 'Good Smartians' has been started with the aim of motivating people to help those injured in road accidents. In this, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 5000 will be given to those who try to save the life of a road accident victim by taking him to the hospital during the 'golden hour' within the first one hour of the accident. The objective of this scheme of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is to help people injured in road accidents and reduce the cases of accidental deaths.
Jatin Lal said that according to the scheme, a person can be given the award as a Good Smartian (good helper) a maximum of five times in a year. Apart from this award, an award of Rs 1 lakh each will be given to the 10 most noble helpers at the national level.
He told that under the scheme, the local police station will take the details of Good Smartian along with the verification of doctors and fill the prescribed form and send it to the district level evaluation committee. This committee headed by the District Magistrate will recommend the award.
610 road accidents in last 3 years in Una, 265 lost their lives
In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the statistics of road accidents in the district and stressed on making targeted efforts to reduce them. According to the data, there have been 610 road accidents in Una in the last 3 years in the years 2021, 22 and 23, in which 265 people died tragically, while 921 people were injured. In most of the cases, the causes of accidents include driving at high speed and careless overtaking.
