Central Jail Patiala hosted the zonal matches of Punjab Prison Olympics 2024. Inmates enthusiastically participated in the games.

Patiala, March 10 - Central Jail Patiala hosted the zonal matches of Punjab Prison Olympics 2024 from March 4 to 10. Meanwhile, inmates from various correctional facilities including Central Jail Patiala, Central Jail Sri Goindwal Sahib, District Jail Rupnagar, District Jail Sangrur, New Jail Nabha, and Sub Jail Malerkotla participated enthusiastically. The prisoners competed in various disciplines including tug of war, volleyball, badminton, athletics (100 m, 400 m, long jump), and kabaddi.

The winners of this zonal tournament will participate in the Inter-Zonal Punjab Prison Olympic Games 2024 to be held at Central Jail, Patiala from March 30 to 31, 2024. DIG Jail Headquarters and Patiala Circle Surinder Singh Saini attended the zonal final and medal distribution ceremony today at Central Jail Patiala. Along with them were the officials of Central Jail Patiala including Mr. Manjit Singh Sidhu Superintendent Central Jail Patiala, Mr. Harcharan Singh Gill Additional Superintendent and other dignitaries. In the Kabaddi final competition played on this occasion, the Kabaddi team of Patiala Jail became the winner by defeating the team of Sub Jail Malerkotla in an exciting competition.
DIG Jail Headquarters and Patiala Circle Surinder Singh Saini said that the aim of the Punjab Jail Olympics, 2024 is to instill a sense of sportsmanship and discipline among the inmates and channelize their energy in a positive manner. He said that professional coaches were appointed to ensure smooth organization of the games. He appreciated the march past parade carried out by the jail inmates carrying their respective jail flags.
