
Celebrating World Hearing Day, Changing mindsets: Let’s make ear and hearing care a reality for all"
Every year on the 3rd of March, World Hearing Day is observed globally to raise awareness about hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across all age groups. This year, the significance of World Hearing Day was magnified as the Cochlear Implant Group of India (CIGI) awarded the prestigious CIGI Activity Grant to the Department of Otolaryngology at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Naresh K Panda, the team utilized this grant to organize a series of impactful awareness activities to commemorate World Hearing Day. The Department of Otolaryngology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, took this opportunity to conduct various awareness initiatives aimed at educating the public about the importance of Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) and hearing care for all. There was a combined academic activity of Departments of ENT and Peaditrics, on Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program, which was delivered by Dr Naresh K Panda, Prof & Head, Department of ENT
One of the highlights of the event was a public awareness play on Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS), which aimed to inform and educate the audience about the significance of early detection of hearing loss in infants. The play imparted crucial information that could potentially change lives. In addition to the play, the ENT OPD was adorned with informative posters highlighting key facts about hearing loss, prevention measures, and available treatment options. Brochures containing valuable information about hearing care were distributed among the patients and caregivers to further reinforce the importance of maintaining good hearing health.
Furthermore, to reach a wider audience, a public health awareness message focusing on hearing care for all and Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) will be telecasted in all the PVR cinemas in Chandigarh and Mohali on Sunday,3rd March 2024, taking the campaign beyond hospital walls. This initiative aims to spread awareness beyond the confines of medical facilities and engage the general public in understanding the importance of hearing health.
