Samana (Patiala), January 15: A woman Gurpreet Kaur and her one-and-a-half-year-old child died after drowning in the Bhakra Canal here this morning. It has been learned that this woman along with her family was going from Kaithal to Darbar Sahib Amritsar to offer obeisance. When the family reached the same Bhakra canal, the woman stopped the vehicle and said that she had to throw coconuts in the canal.

  While going, she took her one and a half year old child Gurnaz with her, her husband and the other child remained in the vehicle. Both Gurpreet Kaur and Bacha Gurnaz drowned in the canal due to slippage. On this occasion, the surrounding people gathered. Samana DSP Neha Aggarwal has said that the body of the woman was taken out at Khanuri but the child has not been found yet. Balkar Singh, father of the deceased, said that his daughter's father-in-law is from Janetpur village (Haryana). After the post mortem, the police have handed over the body to the heirs.
