
Health Department is committed to root out the scourge of infanticide: Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur
Nawanshahr - A meeting of the District PCPNDT Advisory Committee was held on Tuesday at Civil Surgeon Office, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar under the chairmanship of Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur. In which various agendas including strict implementation of PCPNDT Act and renewal of registration of scanning centers were discussed to further improve the gender ratio of the district. Before this, health worker Harnek Singh gave detailed information about the agenda of the meeting to the members of the District Advisory Committee.

On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur instructed the Acting District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Renu Agarwal to keep a strict watch on the ultrasound scan centers of the district. He said that the health department is keeping a close eye on those who violate the PCPNDT Act in the district. Continuous checking of ultrasound scan centers is being ensured in the district to prevent the incidence of feticide. He said that there are instructions to the ultrasound scan centers that they should work according to the rules of the Act. The scanning centers under this act were instructed to ensure timely application for renewal of registration of their scanning centers.
He said that from time to time the district level team formed by the health department conducts random checks of the scanning centers of the district and it is seen whether their records are as per the rules of the Act or not. He said that it is a crime in the eyes of the law to test the sex of the fetus in the womb or to put pressure on a pregnant woman to get tested. And under the act, punishment is given when such a case comes to light. He said that doing and conducting gender test during pregnancy is both a crime. From the doctor involved in this crime to the examiner and the person conducting the examination are considered equally guilty and can be imprisoned for a minimum of three years if convicted.
