Hoshiarpur / Garhshankar December 17 - Using modern microsurgical techniques, doctors successfully reimplanted the amputated left hand of a farmer. The farmer's left hand was accidentally cut off while working on the wood-cutting machine.
With an amputated hand, he was rushed to IVY Hospital, Hoshiarpur in time, where a team of plastic surgeon Dr Sumit Toor and anesthetists Dr Manpreet Kaur and Dr Harpreet Singh used modern microsurgical techniques to reimplant the hand.
Dr. Toor reattached blood vessels, nerves, bones and tissues.
"Traumatic amputation patients often face significant physical and emotional challenges," said Dr. Toor. Timely reimplantation can bring new hope to people suffering from organ loss.
He added that preservation of the graft and timely delivery to the hospital are important aspects of re-implantation surgery.
Severe injuries may not be suitable for reimplantation, but osteoplastic replant surgery can save the hand, they said.
