Chandigarh (Paigam-E-Jagat): Punjab Water Resources Minister Chetan Singh Jaudamajra today reviewed the ongoing projects, future plans and water storage at the dams during a meeting with the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) officials. took While presiding over a meeting with BBMB officials at his office at the Punjab Civil Secretariat, Cabinet Minister Chetan Singh Jaudamajra reiterated that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to strengthening the canal irrigation system in the state and ensuring continuous supply of water to the farmers of the state. Efforts are being made tirelessly to ensure availability. On this occasion, the officials informed Jodamajra about the settlement made by the institution regarding infrastructure, water regulatory measures and distribution of shares among the partner states. The Cabinet Minister asked all the authorities to proactively take emergency measures before possible floods. He specifically directed the BBBM officials to provide timely updates on the release of water from the dams to ensure effective preventive measures by the government and farmers.
The Cabinet Minister said that he would soon visit the site and take stock of the dams. Jodamajra said that this time the state government has provided canal water to the farmers as per their demand, which has happened for the first time in the state. The cabinet minister said that there has been an increase of about 38 percent in the use of canal water compared to last year and this year there will be further increase in the use of canal water for irrigation. He also stressed on devising plans for maximum use of canal water to save the ever-decreasing ground water. Water related issues of other states were also discussed in the meeting. In the meeting, Secretary of Water Resources Department Krishan Kumar, Secretary of BBMB Satish Kumar Singla, Chief Engineer (Canals) JP Singh, Chief Engineer Bhakra Dam (BBMB) Charanpreet Singh, Director Water Regulation Rajiv Goyal and Other officers were present.
