Ban on gathering of 5 or more persons, holding meetings, raising slogans and demonstrating in the district

Patiala, December 10 - Additional District Magistrate Anuprita Johal, using the powers conferred under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Act No. 2 of 1974), has prohibited any kind of demonstrations/protest sit-ins, rallies, meetings within the limits of District Patiala. Prohibition orders have been issued against chanting, raising slogans, gathering of five or more people.

Patiala, December 10 - Additional District Magistrate Anuprita Johal, using the powers conferred under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Act No. 2 of 1974), has prohibited any kind of demonstrations/protest sit-ins, rallies, meetings within the limits of District Patiala. Prohibition orders have been issued against chanting, raising slogans, gathering of five or more people.
In the issued order, it has been said that gathering of five or more than five persons, holding meetings, raising slogans, demonstrating etc. is likely to disturb public peace, cause damage to government and non-government properties. In such a situation, it is necessary to take appropriate steps to maintain the law and order situation in the state and to maintain public peace.
The order, enforced by the Additional District Magistrate till February 5, 2024, will not apply to gatherings of security personnel, police personnel on duty and government programmes, weddings and funerals.
