In the orders given by Justice Rajbir Sehrawat of the High Court, it has been said that the suspension of the salaries of the Principal Secretaries of the Finance and Education Departments will continue until the orders of the High Court are complied with. The next hearing of this case has now been fixed for 21 February 2024. Justice Sehrawat gave this order while hearing the contempt of court petition filed by Anil Kumar and another. In this case, the petitioners in the High Court in 2012. had filed a petition seeking a direction to give the benefit of past service rendered by them in government aided schools for fixing their pay on joining government schools.

Accepting their petition, a single bench of the High Court headed by Justice Jitinder Chauhan, in its order dated February 19, 2018, directed the Punjab government and its concerned authorities (in this case the education and finance departments) to fix the salaries of the petitioners. were given Even after the High Court's order, the state authorities did not comply with the February 2018 order. In the contempt petition, the petitioners told the High Court that the order dated February 19, 2018 was challenged by the department, but it was dismissed by the Division Bench of the High Court in September 2022.
After this, the Punjab government filed a petition in the Supreme Court. But his Special Leave Petition (SLP) was also rejected by the Supreme Court in April this year. Despite this, the orders given by the court were not followed. Even on 16 August 2023, the state informed the court that it was already in the process of complying with the order. However, again when the matter came up for hearing before the court on December 5, the state failed to comply with the order. Taking a strict stand, the High Court issued orders to freeze the salaries of the Principal Secretaries of the Finance and Education Departments.
