Chandigarh: November 10, 2023:: Punjab Engineering College hosted an enlightening lecture on Quantum Technologies. The distinguished expert for this session was Professor. Rajesh V. Nair from Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. Prof. Nair's expertise lies in the intricate domains of Nano- and Quantum-Photonics devices and materials, Meta-surfaces, Meta-materials, and Bio-inspired photonics, evident in his extensive body of work comprising over 50 publications in renowned international journals.
The event, held at the Institute Auditorium, featured Prof. Rajesh V. Nair delivering an expert lecture titled "Quantum Technologies with Diamonds". The lecture delved into the rapidly emerging research area of Quantum Technologies, specifically exploring the potential of color centers in nanodiamonds, a promising candidate in quantum information and sensing technologies.
During his enthralling lecture at PEC Auditorium, Prof. Rajesh Nair focused on the light-emitting properties of Nitrogen interstitial vacancies in Nano-scale diamonds. These nitrogen vacancies, intensely researched for their potential in single-photon-emitting devices, were discussed for their superior stability and performance compared to other alternatives such as Quantum dots.
The distinguished gathering included academics and students, with notable attendees such as Emeritus Professor Prof. Arun K. Grover, the Head of the Physics Department Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Dr. Shobhna Dhiman, Dr. Poonam Saini and Dr. Shilpi Chaudhary. Also in attendance were faculty members, dedicated research scholars, as well as both master's and graduate students, all eager to absorb the insights shared by Prof. Nair.
