Kharar, October 23 - Outsourced and contract workers of Punjab Fire Brigade staged a peaceful sit-in at Desumajra Chowk for their demands. On this occasion, the protesting employees demanded that the process of regularizing the outsourced employees should be started before the new regular recruitment and until the notification is issued by the Punjab government regarding the regularization of the outsourced employees of the fire department. New recruitment should be stopped.
On this occasion, the protestors said that the salary of the outsourced employees working in the fire department of Municipal Corporation Mohali has been reduced by changing them from Service Cadre-C to Service Coder-D. He said that the salary of employees has been reduced by around Rs.1200/- to basic salary of Rs.9532/- per month and salaries are not being paid in many fire stations of Punjab for almost 6 months. The employees said that the fire department employees belong to poor families and it has become difficult for them to manage the family expenses due to the government reducing their salaries and not getting them on time. They demanded that the Punjab government employees should be given DC rate equivalent to Chandigarh Fire Department. and regularize them at the earliest.
