The All India Lawyers Union organized a conference and seminar on the Indian Constitution, democracy, and legal governance.

On September 4th, in SAS Nagar (Mohali), the Punjab unit of the All India Lawyers Union organized a conference and seminar on the Indian Constitution, democracy, and legal governance. The event featured prominent speakers including Professor Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Professor Chaman Lal, senior advocate P.V. Surindra Nath from the Supreme Court, advocate Rajeev Godara from the Punjab High Court, and Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board.

During the conference, Professor Ranjit Singh Ghuman emphasized that the corporate sector is increasingly influencing governance in the country, and a significant number of criminals are being elected to the Parliament and State Assemblies. He highlighted the pervasive corruption in the political and governmental systems and the loss of trust of the people in political parties and leaders, which poses a threat to democracy. He argued that the last hope for the people in the country lies in the judiciary, and it is essential to preserve the fundamental framework of the Indian Constitution. P.V. Surindra Nath, senior advocate from the Supreme Court, pointed out that the country is going through challenging times, and people's faith in constitutional institutions is diminishing. He stated that the current central government is trying to undermine constitutional institutions and expressed the need for immediate reforms to protect the democracy. Professor Chaman Lal stressed that the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, is being widely misused, with a majority of cases filed against drug users. He called for immediate amendments to this law to protect the rights of the common people. Advocate Rajeev Godara discussed the urgent need to engage in a dialogue about the Indian Constitution and democracy among the public, as the absence of such discussions is at the root of various issues. Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, emphasized the importance of ending the demand for the abolition of constitutional institutions and the need for lawyers, especially from the Sikh community, to come forward for the welfare of the country. During the event, the Punjab unit of All India Lawyers Union (Punjab Unit) also elected its office bearers, including Advocate Prem Singh Nannwa, Tejwant Singh, Hukam Singh Bhullar (Patron), Shri Tara Singh Chahal as President, Shri Sarvjit Singh Virk as General Secretary, Harbhag Singh Gill as Senior Vice President, Darshan Singh Dhillon, Rajinder Singh Alunwa, Rajinder Singh Lakhanpal as Vice Presidents, and Baldev Singh Mandial, Jatinder Singh Dapper, Beant Kaur, Gurmel Singh Dhaliwal, and Amarjeet Singh Chahal as members of the Executive Committee.
