Patiala, September 11 - As per the guidelines of National Legal Services Authority and Punjab State Legal Services Authority and under the guidance of District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Rupinderjit Chahal, National Lok Adalats for settlement of cases relating to cheque bounce cases, money recovery cases, labour and employment disputes, payment of electricity, water bills and other bills (except non-compoundable), maintenance cases, other criminal compoundable cases and other civil disputes and cases pending in courts such as criminal compoundable offences, tribunal cases relating to cheque bounce, money recovery cases, MACT cases, labour and employment dispute cases, electricity, water bill and other bill payment cases (except non-compoundable), matrimonial disputes (except divorce), land acquisition cases (pending from civil courts/tribunals), pay and allowances and retirement benefits, revenue cases etc. will be organized in District Patiala on September 14. Benches of Judicial Courts will be constituted at Patiala, Rajpura, Samana and Nabha for this purpose. Madam Mani Arora, CJM/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala said that the main objective of Lok Adalats is to settle disputes through compromises. The aim is to save time and money for the parties involved and to reduce personal animosity between them. It is important to note that except for non-negotiable criminal cases, all types of cases, even those at the pre-litigation stage, can be submitted to the People's Court for amicable settlement.
Madam Arora further informed that when a case is settled in Lok Adalat the decision becomes final and no appeal lies against it.
