
No disabled person should be left out from the unique identity card: Deputy Commissioner
Una, September 12 - Deputy Commissioner Una, Jatin Lal reviewed the efforts being made for education, employment and social inclusion of Divyangjan in the district under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 in a meeting of the District Level Divyang Committee. He asked the officials to ensure that no Divyangjan of the district is deprived of Unique Disability Identification Card (UDID). For this, he directed the Health Department to conduct a comprehensive survey through ASHA workers and share its data with the Social Welfare Department so that any missed beneficiary can be given the benefit of UDID. 5961 disabled people are getting the benefit of social security pension

5961 disabled people are getting the benefit of social security pension
The Deputy Commissioner informed that a total of 5961 Divyangjans are being provided the benefit of social security pension in the district. In this, an amount of more than Rs 5.31 crore has been spent so far under the financial year 2024-25. Under the Divyang Scholarship Scheme, Rs 5.60 lakh has been distributed to 52 beneficiaries in 2023-24. Under the Divyang Marriage Award Scheme, an amount of Rs 25,000 is provided in cases of 40 to 74 percent disability and Rs 50,000 in case of more than 75 percent disability. 217 people have been given benefits under this scheme.
Review of 15-point program
The Deputy Commissioner stressed on the effective implementation of the Prime Minister's 15-point program for the upliftment of the minority community. The aim of the program is to provide equal opportunities in education, health, and employment to the minority community. He informed that 833 children aged 6 months to 6 years and 191 mothers of the minority community are being given the benefit of a special nutrition program through Anganwadi centers in the district.
District Vigilance and Awareness Committee Meeting
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the measures being taken to protect the rights of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 in the meeting of the District Level Vigilance and Awareness Committee. He asked to expedite the disposal of pending cases under the Act. Providing relief amount and legal protection to the victims was also discussed in the meeting.
Discussion on legal protection of disabled people
The Deputy Commissioner discussed the legal protection of mentally challenged persons such as those suffering from autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities in a meeting of the District Level Local Committee under the National Trust Act 1999. So far, 108 permanent legal guardians have been appointed in the district.
